Marina di Loano “recommences” with a day of major events

6/28/2021

Past and future come together at Marina di Loano. Today, the Marina was visited by “four-wheel masterpieces” taking part in the 12th Historical Re-enactment of the Milan-Sanremo Cup, the most characteristic and historically rich Italian vintage motoring race.

On the second day of racing, the crews took on the final special trials. Departing from Rapallo, they paraded through Piazza De Ferrari in the centre of Genoa and reached Marina di Loano. While the participants in the event were welcomed on the terraces of the Marina Center, the Marina di Loana congress center, their cars were on prominent display in the Marina’s spacious external car park for the admiration of enthusiasts and the curious, eager to get a close-up view of these true works of art on four wheels.

The race will continue with the completion of the timed trials on the Ospedaletti Circuit and will conclude in Sanremo with the traditional parade in Corso Matteotti, followed by the gala dinner and award ceremony.

The new edition of the “Grand Dame” of races, for the first time in its history marking the beginning of the 2021 ACI Sport Italian Great Events Championship, is full of new features and boasts important partners such as Urban Up|Unipol and IWC Schaffahausen, the official timekeeper, both main sponsors of the event. Mercedes Benz returns as the corporate partner of the event via the official dealrship Merbag spa, as does the partnership with Cuvage, the Italian producer of traditional sparkling wine, which will be the official supplier of beverages for the race. Marina di Loano spa, Gold Sponsor of the event, will be playing host to one of the most enchanting stages on the route.

Until Sunday 9 May, Marina di Loano played host to the “Open Day sBali Catamarans”, featuring four futuristic Bali catamarans. The event was promoted and organised by Adria Ship, the Italian agent for Bali boats, and supported on an international level by the Bali shipyard itself. The event saw the presence of international sector operators and journalists, who were also given the opportunity to experience the performance of the catamarans first hand thanks to a number of trials at sea.

The CEO of Marina di Loano, Gianluca Mazza, stated: “Marina di Loano is more than just boating, offering a world of opportunities and services allowing interaction with everyone and everything. One example of this multifaceted character is the two events that we are hosting today and that unite the “land” and the “sea” aspects of our marina: the open day promoted by a renowned French catamaran producer and the most famous Italian vintage car race, of which we are also a Gold Sponsor. Our 160 thousand square metres of open-air space allows us to receive and host hundreds of people and tourists in complete safety and in full respect for anti-COVID regulations. This is just one of the many characteristics that make Marina di Loano one of the ten most beautiful marinas in the world”.

“It has been a long time since we saw two events on the same day, long before the arrival of the COVID-19 emergency - commented the Mayor of Loano, Luigi Pignocca - we hope that this wonderful day (not only in terms of weather) is indicative of a summer season that truly marks the recovery of our community and of the whole of Italy. In order to get back on track, all areas of production need to collaborate and work together to get the entire tourism sector moving again. The two large-scale events taking place at Marina di Loano and the many people here today are an example of the results that can be achieved”.
The day saw the presentation of the new Marina di Loano logo, the result of an intense restyling and a foretaste of the wider-ranging renovation programme that in the near future will involve the entire Loano port area. The new version of the logo features a pennant, a universal symbol of boating, and the porthole, one of the most recurring architectural elements in this sector. The result is a modern logo that contains references to life both in the port and in the area as a whole, and looks to a future that is ever-increasingly characterised by innovation and sustainability.

“The new logo - concluded Gianluca Mazza - represents the first step towards a wider-ranging relaunch of Marina di Loano that we are certain will have benefits for the entire complex. Another aspect of this project is “Leisure Harbour”, the international call for ideas through which we are inviting young architects to redesign Marina di Loano. The community, the city and our Marina need to be able to work as much as possible in harmony, in order to become even more attractive and therefore encourage tourists and boaters to visit us”.
